The Easter customs of the Peloponnese highlight the religious tradition and culture of the region. In Ano Kastritsi, Achaia, the residents observe a unique custom on Easter Monday. The religious procession begins in the morning from the central church, led by the icon of the Resurrection. It is followed by flags, processional crosses, and icons, with the residents dressed in traditional costumes. Throughout the procession, the participants chant “Lord, have mercy,” creating an atmosphere of devotion and religious reverence.

The procession follows a route that passes by the small chapels around the village, while the priests stop at a centuries-old tree to pray. The procession then ends at the chapel of the Virgin Mary, where the Divine Liturgy is celebrated. After the walk, which lasts about five hours, the participants return to the central square of Ano Kastritsi to celebrate with dances and traditional foods, such as roast lamb and red eggs, reviving the Easter customs of the area.
