The Flaming Cross at the Port of Nafpaktos

One of the best-known Easter customs in Nafpaktos is the flaming cross at the port. On Good Friday, before and during the procession of the two Epitaphios biers from the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Demetrios and the Holy Church of Saint Paraskevi, the atmosphere fills with flames and fireworks, creating a truly special spectacle. At the Venetian Port, the fires on the battlements and the flaming cross enhance the imposing scene, adding a sense of mystery and divine presence.

One of the most important Easter customs of Nafpaktos reaches its peak with the musical performance that accompanies the religious ceremony. The Nafpaktos choir gives an unforgettable performance, with the participation of a soprano and the musical guidance of experienced conductors. The atmosphere reaches its climax when the Epitaphios biers arrive at the Dapia of the Port, with the Metropolitan’s address and the fireworks marking the departure of the Epitaphios processions, completing the magnificent scene.
