The custom of the Lazarines of Kozani is one of the most important traditions of Lazarus Saturday and is revived every year in Aiani, the historic seat of the Municipality of Kozani. It preserves strong elements from antiquity, connecting nature and life with rebirth. The custom is performed exclusively by women, who wear traditional and colorful costumes, while the songs that accompany the celebration recall ancient spring carols and prepare the way for the Resurrection of the Lord.

In Aiani, the highlight of the celebration is the “Tsintsiro” dance, where young and older women gather in the central square to dance and sing. The Lazarines of Aiani, adorned with impressive jewelry and traditional local clothing, keep the local tradition alive. The custom is not limited only to Aiani, as it is also presented in other cities such as Kozani, Thessaloniki, and Kavala, strengthening the region’s openness and cultural heritage.
